Howdy folks,

How common is it for stuff to break on a lifted truck? I've broken a leaf spring bracket last summer and a lower track bar bracket last month so far. I haven't really done any serious off roading with my baby (I do show her mud now and then) and other than a few burnouts on my last set of treads, she's got a pretty easy life. I can guess that  1/4 inch steel plate is maybe gonna give eventually under the weight of a diesel engine, but it just doesn't seem right to me.

Is this just something I should expect? The local lift guy says I've got everything installed right, but doesn't have a clue why this happened. I've only got 77k on the truck.

Any ideas?

Just a thought,

I am wondering if you are towing anything?  Also, if you  are doing burn outs and the back end is twisting out from behind you, that is putting the whole load of the truck on those rear plates.  I have a block kit on my truck that they say help, I cracked my OEM ones. That is my suggestion on the blocks, but I have never heard of somene snapping leafs before that is crazy.  Could be anything, combination of mudding, burnouts, curbs, pot holes, daily driving stuff, or what is very unlikely but in my research of your awesome mysterious problem, I have read that if they torque the bolts to tight on the plates for the leafs in the rear they can actually crimp the metal on the leaf and create a weak spot, or a great point for a break/tear of the leaf.  Hope this was of some help.

It also depends on the lift you bought.  If it is a low quality brand or installed by a low quality shop, this could be the reason for the breaking.

guys gotta a point if its low quality its gonna break

aloso the whole back end of the truck has to be set a a perfect torque with a torque wrench or the metal can be over tightened and problems occur

i put my trailer hitch on with a light torque setting the i was driving down the road with my friends boat and after 2 months of putting it on the whole back end came off in a hill and the boat went rolling down lucky there was no cars behind me
